Age Group: Suitable for Young Children
Practice Area: 3-4 meters
Ball Size: 3 or 4

Objective

The Tap-Tap-Outside drill focuses on improving quick footwork, ball control, and the ability to change direction effectively. It combines toe taps with sharp outside cuts, enhancing agility and coordination.

Instructions

Setup

  • Mark a 3-4 meter area for the drill using cones or markers.

Starting Position

  • Stand with the ball at your feet in the designated area.

Execution

  1. Perform a toe tap on the ball with your right foot, followed by a toe tap with your left foot.
  2. Immediately after the second tap with the left foot, use the same foot to perform an outside cut, pushing the ball to the left.
  3. Once the ball is on the left side, start again:
    • Tap the ball with your left foot, then the right foot, followed by an outside cut using the right foot, pushing the ball to the right.
  4. Repeat this sequence continuously: tap-tap-outside cut, alternating feet.

Rhythm and Control

  • Maintain a smooth and fluid rhythm throughout the drill.
  • Keep the toe taps light and controlled.
  • Make the outside cuts sharp and precise, focusing on ball control.

Repetitions and Sets

  • Perform 25 repetitions of the tap-tap-outside sequence.
  • Complete 5 sets with short rests in between.

Equipment Needed

  • A soccer ball (size 3 or 4).
  • A flat, hazard-free area for practice.

Safety Tips

  • Ensure the practice space is clear of obstacles.
  • Encourage wearing proper sports footwear for stability and safety.

Progress Tracking

  • Observe the player’s ability to smoothly transition between toe taps and outside cuts.
  • Over time, movements should become more precise, fluid, and rhythmic.

Challenge

  • Encourage the player to increase the speed of their taps and cuts while maintaining control of the ball.
  • Add a timer: see how many sequences they can complete in a minute, and challenge them to beat their personal record.

Fun Tip

Make it interactive! Set goals or give rewards for reaching a specific number of successful sequences. This keeps the drill exciting while fostering skill development.

The Tap-Tap-Outside drill is a great way for young players to develop confidence, agility, and ball control in a fun and engaging way!
