Elastico Drill: Mastering the Art of the Feint

Age Group: Suitable for Young Children
Practice Area: 3-4 meters
Ball Size: 3 or 4

Objective

The Elastico drill teaches players the Elastico move, a quick and skillful feint designed to deceive opponents. This drill improves agility, ball control, and the ability to change direction effectively during play.

Instructions

Setup

  • Mark a 3-4 meter area with cones or markers to define your practice space.
  • Place the ball stationary in front of you.

Execution

  1. Step 1: Start with your dominant foot to ensure better control and quicker mastery.
  2. Step 2: Use the outside of your dominant foot to push the ball slightly away from you. Maintain contact with the ball to ensure control.
  3. Step 3: As you push the ball, sell the feint by shifting your body weight and dropping your shoulder in the direction of the ball movement.
  4. Step 4: Quickly wrap the inside of your foot around the ball, pulling it back toward you in one swift motion. Focus on smoothness and control during this step.
  5. Step 5: Complete the move by pushing the ball past an imaginary defender to the opposite side, accelerating away with control.

Repetitions and Sets

  • Perform 25 repetitions, focusing on the smooth execution of the move.
  • Complete 5 sets, taking short rests between each set.

Equipment Needed

  • A soccer ball (size 3 or 4).
  • A flat, obstacle-free area for practice.

Safety Tips

  • Ensure the practice area is clear of hazards.
  • Use proper sports footwear for stability and performance.

Progress Tracking

  • Observe improvements in ball control and the execution of the Elastico move.
  • As the player gains confidence, movements should become more fluid and natural.

Challenge

  • Encourage players to practice the Elastico with both feet. Start with the dominant foot before transitioning to the weaker foot.
  • Gradually increase the speed of the move while maintaining precision.

Fun Tip

Create a game-like scenario by setting up a mini obstacle or mock defender for the player to execute the move against. Add rewards or challenges to make the practice more engaging!

The Elastico drill is a fantastic way to introduce young players to advanced soccer skills in a fun, supportive environment, helping them gain confidence and creativity on the field.
